This is my very first Intro to my BLOG!
You’re probably wondering why on earth do we need another blog about fashion, beauty and lifestyle? There’s like 100,000+ of them everywhere! Here’s why I started…
Growing up as an American (second generation) in the US while being of Indian descent was not the easiest task. I was learning about 2 very different cultures while dealing with my identity struggle during my teenage years. During that time, I turned to teen vogue, sixteen and the likes, just as my peers did scrolling through the pages, eyeing waif like models clad in bare clothing and bikini’s. Then I would look up from my magazine and realize I was in a different world, a world where modesty and humility played a big part of your character. I couldn’t relate to those models. They were mostly Caucasian, skinny with clear skin and wore clothing that bore a hefty price tag. I was a subdued Indian girl, growing up in the 80’s, average in size with a few pimples and hairy eyebrows (thanks to my Indian heritage) and no relatable model of my skin color or ethnicity.
I grew up often struggling to find a balance between these two worlds, an American of Indian descent. Now at 38, I still find it hard see this balance displayed in the media and often wonder how my kids will grow up finding their sense of belonging. Apart from a few Asian celebrities in the media and now on youtube and Instagram, it is still a niche that is under-represented. Beauty and Fashion have always been a submerged dream that I felt incomplete without expression. I strived to find different ways to eulogize what I found to be passionate about but my friends and peers did not share the same fascination. Through blogging and Instagram, I sought to find a creative outlet for my clandestine dream.
I hope you will join on this new found adventure I call “Trulymadlydeepthi”
